The participants of the "Computer Aided Labelling" seminar became acquainted with innovative technologies for particularly precise labelling.

Optimal labelling due to electronic components

Numerous guests from the food and drink industry became acquainted with pioneering procedures for the computer aided application and inspection of labels at the second HEUFT TeKnowledge event of 2009. The lecturers of the seminar on "Computer Aided Labelling - technology in transition" were able to score a hit particularly with the high level of practical relevance.

"I liked everything very much - the day was very interesting and informative" was one of the comments regarding the quality of the informative event at HEUFT.  Other assessments were equally positive:  the presentations "went well together" and "everything was explained very clearly".

Precision during labelling and label inspection

Thus HEUFT Product Manager Markus Müller explained how the use of electronic components optimises the flexibility, precision and operating convenience when applying and inspecting labels.  He presented the complete range of HEUFT labelling solutions to the guests with particular emphasis on the in-house developed, servo-controlled rotating cam and the camera system for the precise alignment of containers in the new HEUFT TORNADO flex.  Mr Müller also presented the HEUFT TORNADO S self-adhesive labeller as well as two current new developments:  the HEUFT TORNADO R hot glue wrap-around labeller and the automatic magazine feed of the HEUFT TORNADO wet glue labeller .

Complete solutions for complex tasks

Mr Müller had prepared concrete installation examples for each HEUFT labeller.  The well-thought out construction, the easy operation, the integration of proven components, the embedded inspection technologies and many in-house developments which point the way to the future are among the advantages of these computer aided devices.  "The HEUFT know-how in the mechanics, electronics and image processing sectors" explained Mr Müller "creates complete solutions even for complex tasks".

A reduction in faulty labelling

Josef Wydra the guest speaker introduced his lecture with the following words:  "HEUFT has the labelling machines, you have the product and we have the labels".  The Sales Manager from CCL Label Meerane GmbH referred to his company´s worldwide market leadership as regards adhesive and wrap-around labels and presented the seminar participants with pressure sensitive labels (PSL) and wash off labels among other things.  According to Mr Wydra self-adhesive labels increase the efficiency of the complete filling line compared with wet glue labels.  Downtimes due to cleaning and servicing the devices and during brand changes are minimised and the proportion of incorrectly labelled containers is reduced.

Inspection systems which can be integrated

Whether this is really the case can be checked with the HEUFT checking and inspection modules which can be integrated in the labeller.  Dr Thomas Jahnen introduced these in his presentation.  Detections for checking the presence of a label can be integrated into the HEUFT labelling systems as well as inspection units for verifying the type and the correct positioning of the labels.  Furthermore the HEUFT vio OCR makes it possible to check the best-before date applied in detail.  However the potential of the inspection possibilities which can be integrated in the HEUFT labellers has not been exhausted yet by far:  whether a fill level detection, an internal container pressure measurement with the HEUFT sonic or a complete closure inspection with the HEUFT VISION - the variety of the possibilities impressed the participants of the CAL seminar.

Self-adhesive labeller and code reader in action

They could see the performance of the solutions presented for themselves during the live demonstration:  the new HEUFT TORNADO S  flex and the HEUFT vio OCR code reader could be seen in action.  Markus Müller and Dr Thomas Jahnen took the time to explain the numerous practical features and functions of the devices in detail.  The high level of informational value and practical relevance of the HEUFT TeKnowledge seminar was acknowledged by the participants with an extremely positive feedback.
